Not Every Project Starts With a Blank Page

A look at how an existing iPad mini case product shot was reworked for a new launch moment by updating the scene, background, and story instead of rebuilding everything from scratch.

Not every project starts with a blank page.

With the new iPad mini announcement this week, it felt like a good time to revisit this one. We already had a strong product shot of the case, so instead of rebuilding everything from scratch, I reworked the background and scene around it to make the image feel relevant to the launch.

Sometimes the job is figuring out what already works, what needs to change, and how to make an existing idea feel right for a new product or moment.

I didn’t want it to feel staged. I wanted it to look like someone had actually stopped somewhere, pulled out their iPad, and got a little work done before moving on.

That’s what I aim for with lifestyle imagery. It’s not just about showing the product. It’s about helping people see how it could fit into their day.

It also means knowing when to reuse, adapt, or rework an existing visual rather than rebuilding from scratch, especially when timelines are tight.

The goal isn’t always to make something completely new.

It’s to make the work feel right for the moment.

Thanks for looking. Stay in touch.
